Shanghai Acupuncture Clinic provides personalized, holistic acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments for patients across the Cumming, Alpharetta, and North Atlanta area. All services are provided by or under the supervision of a Georgia-licensed acupuncturist. Treatment plans are individualized based on each patient's unique health constitution and clinical needs.
The insertion of sterile, single-use, factory-sterilized disposable needles at specific points on the body to promote the flow of qi, stimulate the body's natural healing abilities, and support physical and emotional well-being. Needles are typically retained for 20-40 minutes. Our technique is designed to minimize discomfort - many patients barely feel insertion and frequently fall asleep during treatment.
A modern adaptation of traditional acupuncture using gentle electrical stimulation applied to inserted needles to enhance therapeutic effect. Particularly effective for chronic pain, neuropathy, nerve pain, and musculoskeletal conditions. Possible side effects include mild electrical sensation, discomfort, or temporary aggravation of existing symptoms.
The application of suction cups to the skin to promote circulation, release muscle tension, and support detoxification. Cupping commonly produces temporary red, purple, or dark bruising marks on the skin that typically fade within 3-7 days. This is a normal and expected outcome, not an injury.
The application of heat using moxa (dried mugwort herb) near or over acupuncture points to warm meridians, dispel cold, and stimulate qi flow. Risk of mild burns, skin irritation, or scarring exists with heat-based treatments. Patients are advised to inform the practitioner of any heat sensitivity.
A therapeutic skin-scraping technique using a smooth tool to release muscle tension, reduce inflammation, and improve circulation. Temporary redness or petechiae (small red dots) on treated areas is a normal and expected outcome, not a sign of injury.
A form of Chinese medical massage used alongside acupuncture treatment to address musculoskeletal pain, joint stiffness, and energy imbalances based on meridian theory.
Customized herbal formulas prescribed for individual health conditions based on TCM diagnosis. Herbs must be prepared and consumed according to written and verbal instructions provided by your practitioner. Possible side effects include nausea, digestive upset, headache, rash, or other reactions. Certain herbs are contraindicated during pregnancy. Patients must disclose all current medications and supplements before receiving herbal prescriptions.
Dietary and lifestyle guidance based on Traditional Chinese Medicine principles, tailored to your individual body constitution and health goals.

Certain acupuncture points are contraindicated during pregnancy and may pose a risk of miscarriage if needled. All female patients must inform their practitioner before treatment if they are pregnant, trying to conceive, or suspect they may be pregnant. Some herbal formulas are also inappropriate during pregnancy.
Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine are complementary and integrative in nature. The services provided at Shanghai Acupuncture Clinic are not intended as a substitute for conventional medical diagnosis, emergency care, or treatment by a licensed medical physician. We encourage all patients to continue care with their primary care provider and to disclose all treatments - including acupuncture and herbal medicine - to all healthcare providers involved in their care.
The number of treatments needed varies by individual, condition severity, and duration of illness. Acute conditions may require 3-6 treatments; chronic or complex conditions may require 6-20 or more treatments before significant improvement is observed. Individual results vary.
You have the right to be fully informed about all treatment options for your condition, including conventional medicine, physical therapy, medications, injections, and surgery.
